    Let 'em eat LCDs

Way to go carb-counters and fat-fighters. You've created another hole in Ohio's wholly unacceptable economy. Krispy Kreme is closing on Oct. 16 its $4.6-million Ravenna factory after little more than a year. The factory never reached the 150-person employment level Krispy Kreme expected so fewer than 75 people will lose jobs and 14,400 doughnuts it could crank out per hour will be offset by increased production at retail/bakery stores in Akron and elsewhere in Northeast Ohio. As disheartening as it is to lose the Krispy Kreme factory, it is encouraging to see Samsung signing a five-year agreement to fund liquid crystal research in Kent State University's vanguard program. You'll excuse Ohioblog, however, for expressing skepticism regarding the trickle-down effect. Kent's LCD research is priceless, a true Northeast Ohio asset, but when it comes time to make LCD products the knowledge is too often shipped elsewhere. Changing this fact will change the face of Ohio.
