    Friday, October 01, 2004

Hey, Bob, is this the perfect next guv or what?

Here in Ohio, the Florida 2004, there is much to be concerned about a month before Election Day. So much, in fact, that some pesky Democrats have called for Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell, a Republican, to hang up his chad. That won't happen, but even Blackwell acknowledges that at the rate things are going, there could be chaos in the state on Nov. 2. In Summit County invalid signatures for Ralph Nader and an amendment to the Ohio Constitution that would ban gay marriages have surfaced. In Franklin County, which include Columbus, there are more registered voters (817,000) than there are people over the required age of 18 (815,000). Sounds like stuff that used to go on Richard Daley's Chicago and Lyndon B. Johnson's Texas. J. Kenneth doesn't seem to be feeling too confident, as he told The Columbus Dispatch: ``I anticipate that if this race is within what I'm calling the margin of litigatin - 1 or 2 point - you're going to have bands of laywers yelling and screaming at 70-year-old poll workers.'' Mary Beth Cahill, Kerry campaign manager said: ``Don't let Secretary Blackwell get away with blocking votes and handing Ohio to George Bush.'' Doesn't sound like the best springboard to the governor, the job has in mind in 2006. Actually, it may be before. Blackwell on his worst day could not be more incompetent than do-nothing Gov. Bob Taft.
