Why can't life be a little more like art?

Martin Sheen, ``born and breed Buckeye,'' as he reminds us, carries the John Kerry message to his home state in a TV ad from

Sheen suggests that President George W. Bush and Gov. Bob Taft have failed to react swiftly enough to Ohio's problems and that is it time to turn to someone with a history of swift response. (Get it: Swift? Swift boats?)

Truth is, Ohioblog would vote for President Josiah Bartlett, the character played by Sheen
on the award-winning NBC series West Wing. The presidents someone makes up are so much more appealing than the candidates from which we have to choose. The fictional presidents have character, conviction, consciences. Maybe someone should give Bush and Kerry DVDs of the West Wing seasons and The American President, starring Michael Douglas as Andrew Shepard.

The common denominator of West Wing and The American President is writer Aaron Sorkin. How about America hires him to teach its presidents how to lead?
