Before he introduced President George W. Bush at the Republican National Convention, New York Gov. George Pataki took a few minutes of valuable TV time to thank the many who had come to New York City's aide following the terrorist attack of 9/11.
The governor thanked Oregonians, who rented thousand of hotel rooms so workers had jobs.
He thanked Iowans, who provided 500 quilts to keep workers at Ground Zero warm.
He thanked Pennsylvanians, who donated years of savings for Disney World to the rescue fund.
Uh, governor, haven't you forgotten someone?
``Now, I could tell a story like this about every single state in the country,'' Pataki said.
Why don't you check with the New York Fire Department's Ladder 163/Engine 325. They're in Queens. Just drive north from Madison Square Garden, take a right through the Queens Midtown Tunnel and ask someone where Woodside is.
The firemen can show you their 3-year-old ladder truck bought with $1.4 million raised by people in the Akron area.
We did the right thing in helping New York. We sought nothing in return. Still...
Ohioblog will bet that it was no accident that all the people you thanked specifically live in swing states, those that can turn the Nov. 2 election. If both camps are right, no state will be more important in determining that outcome than Ohio.
But hey, governor, that's OK. We know who we are, what we did and why we did it.
And that's enough.
