Hitting the daily double of VP speech-making

Vice President Dick Cheney accepted the Republicans' nomination for a second term with a predictable low-key attack speech. He did not resort to a single F-word, however. He apparently reserves those for U.S. Senators whom he finds even more repugnant than the Democratic presidential nominee, John Kerry.

Cheney reinforced his image as a speaker capable of being verbally vicious and fatally boring simultaneously.

It was the same old same old: Kerry is confused. Kerry is cowardly. Kerry is more French than American.

The speech at once raised the political temperature and lowered the bar for President Bush's acceptance speech.
