eBaying at the moon about Ohio's job market

    President Bush visited Portsmouth
on Friday and took the opportunity to recognize yet again that ``parts of your great state have lagged behind the rest of the nation in (economic) recovery.'' This is one of those places, Scioto County, where the unemployment rate is 8.5 percent, compared with 6.1 percent statewide and 5.4 percent nationally.

At the same time in Summit County, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. announced plans to cut 340 chemical and engineering jobs, 20 to 30 in Akron. In its attempt to return to profitability, Goodyear has been cutting jobs for what seems like forever. The company promised the paring of jobs will continue.

Don't worry about those who lose their jobs, though. Vice President Cheney, in Cincinnati the day before, pointed out that more than 400,000 make money trading on eBay, the Internet auction site.

Yeah right, Brendon Cull, a spokesman for the Ohio Democratic Party, told the Cincinnati Enquirer's Gregory Korte: ``If you put the Bush job creation plan up for sale on eBay, there's not a single Ohioan that would buy it.''
